ABOUT ME
Shannon McKee
Hello and welcome to my portfolio!

My name is Shannon McKee and I am a first semester senior at the University of Rhode Island graduating in December 2020. I am pursuing two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My passion for both protecting the environment and understanding the human elements behind global issues led me to intertwine these two degrees.

Since enrolling at URI, I have had the pleasure of being a part of numerous extracurricular activities. I have served as the President of Women in STEM for the past year, and will continue through the fall semester. I have a passion for encouraging and empowering females (an underrepresented group in STEM fields) to know they can be a part of any field they put their mind to. Our organization strives to create professional connections between professors and students through professional development events and presentations. I am also a Student Ambassador for the College of the Environment and Life Sciences, where I act as a student representative at Welcome Day, Open House, and STEM-related events. I help answer questions prospective students and parents have about the Environmental Science program here at URI from a student perspective. I have also been involved in URI R U OK?, a mental health advocacy and education organization and off-campus organizations including Greenpeace and Citizen's Climate Lobby.

My personal hobbies include participating in group classes at my local YMCA including LesMills BODY PUMP and Zumba and trying out new vegan recipes.
